This comic illustrates an incident with my father and our two dogs, Happy and Billy. He takes them bird hunting every year in season. On this day, instead of flushing out a pheasant, they encountered a porcupine. It did not go well for the dogs. The emergency veterinarian said they had never seen so many quills in a dog's mouth before. To create a sense of the absurd, I added suits of armor as their hunting uniform. I wanted to memorialize this event as a part of our family folklore in the same way they do in fantastical tales of knights and dragons.
